First I tried Typo, then Mephisto and now this blog is running WordPress. As a Ruby fan I really wanted to use Ruby everywhere, 2 years ago. I’m now at the point where I just want working stuff (kids will do that to you I guess). The migration from Mephisto to WordPress was very very smooth, thanks to this excellent article. The Mephisto version I was running was producing a Rails error based on some spam message which was posted. I really didn’t want to dig into the error and upgrading to the latest Mephisto was going to be quite a bit of work. All in all the switch to WordPress took about 2 hours in total, including customizing the theme a bit and making sure the old permalinks kept working. Cool!

Gehehe, always wondered where you found the time to manage a semi-custom blog. Did you also install Akismet to avoid spam in the future? works really well for me!
Akismet is activated yeah. Actually, Mephisto was also akismet enabled, however it was still extremely annoying because there was no option of discarding spam messages outright. I would still have to click through each article which received spam and confirm the removal of the messages.
BTW, you seem to have a fluid width layout with the K2 theme on your blog, did you customize that yourself or can I install an existing CSS hack for that? Thx!
Well… I actually can’t really recall what I did to K2 to make it fluid. I know I run a SVN version with a patch… but I’d have to dive back in to figure out how/why/what… maybe next year
well congrats! Took you a long time to figure this one out
have fun in Surinam.
Thanks, Suriname is great and the kids are loving it!
BTW, going for Ruby when I did was probably the best career move I could wish for.. the $$$ is great and it’s oh soo much more fun than PHP/Java
I am picking up some Java again though because of Android. I personally think it will be huge so I definitely want a piece of the action..
